Coming soon – through generous funding from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention through a grant awarded by the Division of Justice and Community Services, Public Defender Services will host a 40-hour virtual CLE series for West Virginia attorneys representing children in status offenses and delinquency cases.
With expertise from the Juvenile Law Task Force and guest lecturers from experts in the field, the Boot Camp will train juvenile defenders in the biological, psychological, and socio-environmental aspects of the children they represent while working to improve legal practice and juvenile-focused advocacy. The goal of the training is for defense counsel to improve their juvenile law practice by increasing strategic advocacy and promoting community-based alternatives for children. The Boot Camp begins Monday, February 7, 2022 and occurs each Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., through March 7, 2022. The training is free but space is limited. Registration opens January 10, 2022 so please check the Public Defender Services website for more information and to reserve your spot.
